According to Jean Kilbourne, and her Killing Us Softly series, woman have been portrayed as objects rather than people. In the images above, tanning lotion company, Australian Gold, have the women almost naked and posing provocatively. Rather its magazine photos, television commercials, or even music promo pictures, sex is everywhere. So it raises the proposition, sex sells but are woman just sex slaves in the entertainment world. In agreement with Ms. Kilbourne, I believe advertisement companies should not always focus on the physical traits of a woman but rather shine light on some of their intellect. They should also use the average woman and not the perfect woman. A woman who is not the supermodel type but the school teacher with 3 kids, the librarian, a college student, or even a woman with a little weight on her bones. As men, we do tend to like to look at those photos but we also have to take into consideration what if someone was drooling over a picture of our daughter or family member. The picture wouldn't look so good then. With that being said, down below is my essay about Sex and Advertisements.
